.COMWhat is a domain name? Well most of you probably know, it’s usually a name followed by an extension such as “.com”, “.net” or “.org”. There are now over a hundred different extensions available for domain names. Almost every country has their own extension, such as “.ca” for Canada or “.us” for the United States. An example of a domain name is “JoeMidway.com”.

Domains are an integral part of how the Internet works. You might think that’s obvious but it’s an integral part of the Internet because of how they work. A domain name is basically just a name and that’s what makes the Internet easy. The Internet relies on numbers to function…Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to be specific. Domain names are easy ways for humans to remember IP addresses. On the Internet, Domain Name System (DNS) servers convert domain names into IP addresses so that way you can access the websites you want to visit. [Read more →]

Cheap, reliable hosting!

July 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Do you need hosting for a website? Who doesn’t? I was with a company last year that shall remain namely. Their hosting was horrible, they kept trying to charge my credit card for purchases that I didn’t make for domains that I couldn’t get (from auctions), they also charged my credit card a couple times without telling me. On top of that, they would never reply to my support questions and when I called them, their technical support was always outsourced to India (not that there’s anything wrong with India, but it tells you that the company wasn’t serious about their customers).

Anyhow, what I was getting to, is that I switched hosting companies and I couldn’t be happier. People always say you get what you pay for, but that really depends on the situation. I was paying my old hosting company about $20 a month and I definitely wasn’t getting my money’s worth. I am now paying $5 a month for a ton more features and amazing support! I switched over to Site5. [Read more →]

RPC and RPC2 services to ping (The definitive and final guide!)

July 14th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Ping RPC URIs!Ok, so let me just say that this list took me about 10 hours to put together! Yes, that seems ridiculous but unfortunately it’s true. I searched google for sites (RPC and RPC2) that I could ping with my new blog and I came up with a couple of lists.

Now before I get too far into this article, you may be wondering what the point of pinging sites is. Well basically, most content management system (CMS) or blog software has an automated method of telling directories and lists that your site has been updated. If you want to see how WordPress does it or how they explain it, check here. Although the blog or CMS software has a way to tell directories that your site has been updated, it still needs to know who to contact…and this is where the list comes into play. The list that I’ve provided are the sites that you’ll want to notify that your site has been updated. These sites in turn, will provide you with exposure, search engine indexing and free marketing.

First post and the beginning of something new!

July 14th, 2007 · 2 Comments

First post!  Well, I couldn’t make this first post technical because that just wouldn’t make sense.  I thought instead that I’d just give you a bit of an idea of what this website will entail.  Basically this site will be checking out various Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques, blogging (tips, tricks and monetization), affiliate programs, ad programs and pretty much anything else that can help you make money off of the web.  We’ll also look into programs that other website claim work and give you the final verdict.  I’m tired of seeing tons of get rich quick schemes and BS-laden websites trying to peddle one product or another…so my work reviewing these “items” will hopefully be to your benefit when I save you tons of time in the end.  Hope you enjoy your stay and I look forward to seeing you around here again!
